Description
Genesis means "beginning." It gives the "seeds" of that which is later developed throughout the Bible. Genesis depicts the fall of man, the entrance of sin, death and the promise of the coming Messiah who will destroy Satan's power. God's wrath against sin is revealed in the judgment of the flood, a type of what will happen at the end of the age.
The history of Genesis revolves around the lives of seven outstanding patriarchs who embody spiritual principles:
Adam - the headship of man
Enoch - the walk and translation of the believer
Noah - salvation of man and the government of God
Abraham - faith and the call of God
Isaac - sonship, resurrection and substitution
Jacob - God's discipline of His people and the future of Israel
Joseph - Christ's suffering and reigning
The Saviour often quoted Genesis during His life, thus we can be assured of its inspiration and ought to heed its important message.
