This is a very interesting book on the five books of the Psalms and the 150 psalms themselves. Did you know that Psalms is highly prophetic in character—as much so as some of the prophetic books of the Old Testament. Also, it contains material written over about 1000 years! Even Moses wrote one psalm. It was primarily written for the godly Jews who go through tribulation-suffering after the Rapture and before the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ is fully established in peace and righteousness.

The wording is not “Christian,” so does this mean that we can’t profit from reading and studying it? Absolutely not! The believers of all times are saints, are born again, and have many common experiences, good and bad. Think of “The Lordis my shepherd.” In the highest sense it probably is prophetic of words the Lord Jesus said in talking with his Father. It’s interpretation is that it is words that the future godly remnant will say for their comfort. Last, it is a phrase that David used as he wrote it. But in application, we can use the words, even though we know that God does not anoint our heads with literal oil, etc.

Clarence Esme Stuart (1823–1903) became interested in the teachings of so-called “brethren” about 1860 and soon had to leave his previous persuasion. He became lifelong friends with John Nelson Darby. He wrote extensively especially during the last 20 years of his life, which would probably place this book in the 1894–1903 time frame—well over 100 years old. But this book reads much younger due to careful editing by our editorial staff.
