Written from a Roman prison, this letter covers a wide expression of Christian experience. No other portion than chapter 2 covers Christ's humiliation from heaven to the cross, and then His exaltation as a Man in glory. Paul likened himself in a race and he pressed toward the finish line. The prize was the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The future is also wonderful for the believer. Our divine citizenship is in heaven. From that lofty place we look for the Savior to change our bodies of humiliation to bodies of glory, fitted for eternity with our Lord. Think of what that means for us!

In four verses in Chapter 4 we get a little idea of the great amount of Christian experience that Paul covers in this four chapter book. "Rejoice in the Lord." Be moderate or gentle in all things. Don't be anxious. "In everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God … shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
