Scripture memorization is not always easy for young children. Complex principles and unfamiliar words can make the task more difficult. But as Christian parents, we realize there is no better way for our children to experience “Your Word I have hid in my heart that I might not sin against You,” than to memorize Bible verses.

As a parent, if you desire to “bring up a child in the way he should go,” I would strongly encourage you to teach your children the Scriptures. Even a little child can learn “God is love.” Because of this instruction, your child may follow the example of Timothy, “That from childhood you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

My prayer is that this book - with its rhyme, repetition, and a bit of humor - will be a learning tool for your little one to memorize what is perhaps the most well-known and well-loved verse in the Scriptures: John 3:16. May “For God so loved the world,” be indelibly written on your child's tender heart today!

Jean Claar Bassett resides near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her beloved husband, Steve. She is the mother of three grown children, and loves being a grandmother. Jean enjoys teaching Sunday School, writing, card-making, crafts, playing her trombone, and traveling, especially to her North Carolina mountains.

Ruth Ann Scanzillo, illustrator, is the daughter of the late Tony and Betty Scanzillo of Erie, PA. A lifelong resident of Erie, she is newly-retired from a 25 year career in public education as K-12 music teacher to over 3000 children. Currently adjunct pianist for the Mercyhurst College vocal and instrumental students, she also happily plays cello in the Erie Philharmonic and Erie Chamber Orchestras. Ruth Ann would like to dedicate her drawings for "William Says A Verse" to both her beloved parents and especially her nephew, Caleb Scanzillo, of Sunbury PA, and to thank the Lord for Jean Claar Bassett's enduring friendship.
